St Martin’s College (Swatar, Malta) recently held a school-wide initiative celebrating the art of the essay-L-Esej, through an exciting competition in both English and Maltese.
Themed ‘Our Planet’, this initiative showcased students’ essay-writing skills across all levels, in both Maltese and English. The event was a collaborative effort between the English, Maltese, and Creative Arts Departments from St Martin’s College and the Essays Beyond Borders project.
The initiative culminated in a special event on the 16th of January held on school premises. During the event, several students read their essays in public, performed sketches and dances related to the theme and received prizes from their judges, including Professor Mario Aquilina from the Essays Beyond Borders project.
Apart from Professor Mario Aquilina (Department of English), guest speakers included Professor Adrian Grima (Department of Maltese), and Dr Kurt Borg (Department of Public Policy) from the University of Malta.
Hundreds of students from Year 9, 10 and 11 participated in the competition, which was inspired by the theme of the planetary, a central focus of Essays Beyond Borders.
