At a time when all information is immediately available to us, the essay offers the freedom to wander, to let opinions clash and to embrace uncertainty. But why and for whom are essays written? And what makes a good essay? We want to address those questions with Stefan Hertmans, among others.
On September 13, 2024, we will discuss the history of European essay writing with him. We also want to have a closer look at other contemporary forms of the genre: the video essay, the photo essay, the essay performance.
This evening is part of the Essays Beyond Borders project, an Erasmus+ research project carried out by 5 European universities, including Ghent University.
Admission is free. The discussion will take place in English.
Time: 19:30 – 21:00
Location: Library De Krook – Hall The Blue Bird, Miriam Makebaplein 1.
