‘Het essay als grensganger’ (The essay as border crosser)

Last year Thijs Lijster, affiliate of the EBB-project from the University of Groningen, organized ‘Het essay als grensganger’ (The essay as border crosser), a Dutch-language essay-writing workshop for the general public. He did so as part of the Essays Beyond Borders project, and in cooperation with Noordwoord. Over the course of three months, eleven enthusiastic participants read and discussed essays by Montaigne, Hume, Woolf, as well as several Dutch essayists such as Joost Zwagerman and Marja Pruis. There were guest lectures by Mathijs Sanders (professor of Dutch studies at the University of Groningen) and Roosmarie Custers (editor and publisher). Four of the essays written for this workshop are now published on the EBB website, with an introduction by Thijs Lijster.
